LIVE MUSICAL SCORE

Aaron Hill

Aaron Hill, a Baltimore-based musician mentored by Dr. Maurice Johnson, boasts over 30 million streams of his music and 1 million downloads worldwide. Hill founded the group Fruition Experience--a satiating blend of NeoSoul, Jazz, & Hip-Hop--which has been called ‘Cosmic Soul; He also is the CEO of Fruition Music a performance track company. Most recently he has been creating music and featured with The Aaron Hill Trio--a group reminiscent of Keith Jarrett's standard trio. Aaron will be providing a live piano accompaniment to Body and Soul.

A handsome pastor named Isaiah (played by Paul Robeson) comes to town and casts a spell on the entire congregation. But unbeknownst to them, he is actually a violent runaway fugitive known as “Black Carl.”

Oblivious to his true nature, devout churchgoer Martha Jane arranges for her young daughter, Isabelle, to marry the dangerous criminal. To make things more complicated, Isabelle is actually in love with the con man’s good-natured twin brother.

For this event, we will be projecting a rare 35mm film print, lovingly restored from surviving elements by the George Eastman Museum. To replicate the 1920’s moviegoing experience, jazz pianist Aaron Hill will be improvising a fresh score to accompany the film. Deidre Thompson, resident film librarian at MICA, will provide a brief introduction.
